Five Magnetic Fields 1997
„Five Magnetic Fields“ are permanently on view at the Bavarian State Office for Digitisation, Broadband and Surveying, located in Alexandrastr. 4 in Munich.
The paintings are over the map of Bavaria going from North to South in color gradient magnetic fields as one descends the staircase of the five-story building.

CRISTINA BARROSO ‘NUMBERS AND PLANETS’
Cristina Barroso‘s paintings consist of several layers, the bottom of which mostly comes from everyday life cartography. The geography has a special meaning in her work, where she creates a place often expanded into the universe. Elements like stars appear sparkling like pearls on a dark background. With this, Cristina Barroso refers to a theme she has been working on since the 1990s. In addition, she introduced signs and symbols used in astronomy, which she adds to the geographic map material giving an additional level
of meaning to her paintings. Place and location of a person and ultimately of herself run through Cristina Barroso‘s work like a continuous thread — refering to the earth, the universe, space in general. Her images reflect this process in a way that they are not always flat but become reliefs and cubes into the space.

CRISTINA BARROSO ‘ZAHLEN UND PLANETEN’
Cristina Barrosos Gemälde bestehen zumeist aus mehreren Schichten, deren unterste aus dem karto- grafischen Alltag stammt. Die Geografie hat in ihrem Schaffen eine besondere Bedeutung, wobei sie den künstlerischen Raum immer wieder auf das Univer- sum ausweitet. Es tauchen beispielsweise Sterne oder sternenähnliche Elemente auf, die als Perlen aus ei- nem dunklen Untergrund heraus funkeln. Damit greift Cristina Barroso auf ein Thema zurück, das sie bereits in den 90er Jahren bearbeitete. Hinzu kommen nun
in der Astronomie verwendte Zeichen und Symbole, die sie dem geografischen Kartenmaterial hinzufügt und womit sie ihren Gemälden weitere Bedeutungse- benen gibt. Der Ort und die Verortung des Menschen und letztlich ihrer selbst ziehen sich wie ein durch- laufendes thematisches Band durch Cristina Barrosos Werk – bezogen auf die Erde, das All, den Raum im allgemeinen. Ihre Bilder, die selbst nicht immer flach sind, sondern wie Reliefs und als Kuben in den Raum gehen, spiegeln diesen Prozess wider.

Latest Work: Series of 'Cities'
São Paulo & Sun City
These two paintings "São Paulo“ and "Sun City“ are a continuation of a series of city paintings I started in 2002. They depict a „mood“: night and day, mysterious versus playful , oppressive versus liberating. The interpretation is intuitive. The image is from São Paulo in 1958, the year I was born. I consider this a symbolic image of „home“, a place of origin. The city is one aspect in my work, a starting point to explore the world.
